1946-today

The pictures in this section cover the period from the end of World War II up to today.

This is from around 1948 and shows what looks like the banner-carrying team for the Walking Day parade.

In the late 1940s/early 1950s the young people of the church formed a group – The Risley Revellers – to provide entertainment at social events. “The Baby2 – another entertainment item – left to right we can see John Turnock, Roy Unsworth, Jim Bate, Ron Percival, Bill Den and John Jones.
Mr. H.W.Dunkley, the church’s president and minister in the 1940s and 50s. It is interesting to see the painted cross on the wall behind Mr.Dunkley, a simple wooden cross takes price of place here now so this picture reveals a lost piece of folk art.
Another Walking Day – this one in 1953 (and hence the crown-shaped festoons on the lorry), another Miller’s Potato wagon decorated to carry those who were unable to walk for themselves. The lady in the foreground is Mrs. Addison and Keith Higham is at the wheel on the vehicle..
Another image, also, possibly from 1953. Left to right on the lorry are Mrs.Swindell, Mrs.Bate, Freda Dean (nee Bold), Beatrice Percival, and a young Michael Barker peeps over the decorations.
A church trip to the Wirral in 1949. And in the same year, the Women’s Auxiliary class had an outing to Knaresborough. Mrs.Clare, Mrs.Bate, Doris Hodges, Dorothy Swindell, Mrs. Addison, Mary Donoghue, Mrs.Higham and Mary Donoghue are amongst those enjoying the day out.
